Terms of service
These terms govern your use of Budgy. Please read them — the section on linking an email inbox in particular, because it describes what you are asking us to do on your behalf.
Last updated: 7 August 2026
1. Who you are agreeing with
Budgy is operated by App Shop ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Budgy.
2. What Budgy is, and what it is not
Budgy is a personal budgeting app. It helps you plan what you intend to spend, records what you actually spent, and tells you when the two are drifting apart.
It is important to be clear about what it is not:
- It is not a bank and it does not hold or move money. Budgy has no access to your accounts, cannot make a payment, cannot transfer funds, and cannot act on your balance. Everything it shows you is a record, not a transaction.
- It is not financial, tax, investment or legal advice. Budgets, alerts, projections and category suggestions are informational. Decisions about your money remain yours.
- It is not a system of record. Your bank's statements are authoritative. Where Budgy and your bank disagree, your bank is right.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter a binding contract. Budgy is not directed at children and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
4. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your password and your device secure, and for everything done through your account. Give us accurate information and keep it current. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe someone else has gained access.
5. Linking an email inbox
Budgy can read transaction alerts your bank sends you, so your spending appears without you typing it in. This is optional, it is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time. Because it is the most consequential thing you can ask Budgy to do, here is exactly what you are authorising:
- You forward mail to us. Linking gives you a private Budgy address and you set your mail provider to forward to it — either everything, or (better) only messages from your bank. We do not sign into your mailbox, and we hold no credential for it. You set the forwarding rule and you can remove it without us.
- We read what arrives and extract the transaction. Bank alerts typically carry the amount, the merchant, a date and time, the last four digits of the card or account, and sometimes a running balance. We parse those out and record them against your account.
- We may create wallets for you. When an alert names an account or card we do not recognise, Budgy creates a wallet for it automatically, carrying the institution's name and the last four digits from the alert. That wallet is tied to you.
- Some transactions are reviewed by an AI service. Where the merchant is unclear, a short description is sent to a third-party AI provider to suggest a merchant name and category. What is sent is described in our Privacy Policy. Suggestions are suggestions: you can correct any of them, and correcting one teaches Budgy for next time.
- Anything else that arrives is not yours to send. Only forward mail you are entitled to forward. If you forward a mailbox that is not yours, or one carrying other people's personal information, that is your responsibility and not ours.
Unlinking stops import and revokes the address. Mail sent to a revoked address is discarded.
6. Shared budgets
You can invite someone to share a budget. Doing so shows them that budget's plan, its categories and the transactions filed against it. Only invite people you intend to show your spending to. Either side can revoke access; revoking stops future access but does not un-see what has already been seen.
7. Your data
Your budgets, labels, wallets and transactions are yours. You grant us only the permission we need to run the service for you: to store your data, process it, display it back to you, send you the alerts you have asked for, and share it with the subprocessors listed in our Privacy Policy. We do not sell your data and we do not use it to advertise to you.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Budgy for anything unlawful, or to launder or disguise the proceeds of anything unlawful;
- access another person's account, or forward a mailbox you do not control;
- probe, scrape, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or bypass its limits;
- upload malware, or anything designed to interfere with the service or its other users.
9. Availability, and the beta
Budgy is under active development and is currently offered to a limited group of testers. During this period especially, features may change or be withdrawn, the service may be unavailable, and data may be lost. Do not rely on Budgy as your only record of your finances. Keep your bank statements.
Email import depends on your mail provider and on your bank continuing to send alerts in a format we can read. Both can change without notice, and when they do, transactions may stop importing or import incorrectly. Check your records.
10. Fees
Budgy is currently free to use, and we do not take payment details. If we introduce paid features we will say so in advance and you will be able to decline them.
11. Third-party services
Budgy relies on other companies to run — hosting, email delivery, push notifications and AI review among them. They are listed in our Privacy Policy. We choose them carefully but we do not control them, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions beyond what the law requires of us.
12. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent the law allows, Budgy is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, accuracy, or uninterrupted operation. We do not warrant that imported transactions are complete or correct.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, nor for lost profits, lost savings, or financial decisions taken on the basis of what Budgy showed you. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
14. Suspension and termination
You can delete your account at any time from the app, or by writing to [email protected]. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to. On closure we delete or anonymise your data as described in our Privacy Policy.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects your rights we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. Continuing to use Budgy after that means you accept the new terms.
16. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of that State have exclusive jurisdiction. If you use Budgy from elsewhere, you may have rights under your local law that these terms cannot take away.
